For six months a year, Boston can be one of the most alluring cities in the US, offering a wealth of outdoor recreational and sporting activities, especially on the water. When winter hits however, for most athletes the fitness scene shifts indoors. Fortunately, Boston has a strong selection of luxury gyms to handle the cold weather rush. Here are four luxury gyms to check out on your next visit to Boston.
Located in the heart of the Financial District, Republic Fitness has a more urban, industrial feel to its workout space without sacrificing any semblance of luxury. Locker rooms are clean, modern, and stocked with Malin and Goetze amenities.
The weight training and cardio areas are impressive. Republic also offers a wide range of classes and an indoor cycling studio. In a rare feature for urban gyms, there’s also a dedicated, spacious turf training area with kettlebell, TRX suspension training, and even weighted vests for a sprint or jog – a perfect area to warm up or cool down.
A must visit on any business trip to Boston. Republic Fitness is also a member of the Classpass program.
There are five Equinox locations in the Boston area, all worth a visit. We recommend the one downtown on Avery St, one of the brand’s most impressive on the entire east coast.
This Equinox is extremely spacious, at 114,000 sq ft with numerous multi-purpose studios (including a boxing studio), basketball court, indoor pool, and four squash courts. It is also the only Equinox in Boston to feature The Pursuit, a specialized, data-driven cycling experience by Equinox.
Its fully staffed locker rooms feature the typical high quality amenities found throughout the Equinox brand, and are arguably the nicest locker rooms in the city.
BSC Labs is an upscale, boutique offshoot of local chain Boston Sports Clubs with a focus on group classes and personal trainer instruction. Located in Copley Square, the gym offers an impressive array of classes and is known for its Barre classes and CYC Fitness workout, a high-intensity cycling class based on endurance and weighted interval training, all geared to an energetic beat.
The weight training area has a heavy emphasis on a variety of suspension exercises and a dedicated area for turf training – ideal for outdoor sport athletes. Locker rooms are pristine, modern and fully stocked with upscale amenities. BSC Labs is also a member of the Classpass program.
Commonwealth Sports Club
Commonwealth Sports Club (CSC) has the features of a modern, upscale hotel – a setup true fans of luxury gyms worldwide will appreciate. From an indoor salt water pool and hot tub to an outdoor roofdeck pool, you can get in a competitive or relaxing swim year-round. Weather permitting, CSC even offers outdoor workouts and sunrise/sunset yoga classes.
Beneath the luxury features however, CSC is a serious gym with an excellent staff of personal and group trainers, a huge variety of classes and a dedicated Pilates studio. There are two strength training rooms and a large cardio room, both fully stocked with modern equipment.
Additionally, there’s also a good sauna and steam room – both clean and well-maintained. Towel service is offered in locker rooms.
