In general, airline affiliated lounges usually offer a more premium lounge experience than independent lounges. However, occasionally you find an independent lounge that can rival even the best airline affiliated airport lounges. The No1 Lounge at London Gatwick North Terminal is one such lounge.
The first thing you’ll notice about the No1 Lounge at Gatwick North is that it is subdivided into several rooms. There’s an eating area next to the bar, a comfortable seating area overlooking the runways, and then a more segregated area resembling an old-school library – obviously the ‘quiet’ area – convenient if you need to get some pre-flight work done. There’s also a mini movie theatre hidden away with a large screen display and some comfortable seats. The furniture throughout the lounge is exactly what you want from an airport lounge – modern and comfortable. The toilets are spacious and clean and there are showers available.
Food and Drink
Food and drink selection will make or break a lounge. At the No1 Lounge there’s a decent selection of self-serve buffet-type snack food – salads, pastas, fruit, cakes, biscuits, etc. You can also order small complimentary hot food items such as chicken naans, fish finger sandwiches and gnocchi.
Drinks wise – the lounge has a good selection of liquor available. There is one beer on tap but no bottled beers. You have to pay extra for prosecco or champagne – annoying sure, but certainly a ‘first world problem.’ You also have to order the drinks at the bar as opposed to serving yourself – unlike many airline-affiliated lounges.
The No1 Lounge at Gatwick North can get very busy at peak times. With that in mind, if you want to be certain of entering the lounge, it pays to book ahead. Having said that, if you are declined entry because the lounge is full, there are other nearby options such as the Aspire Lounge and My Lounge. It’s worth noting that the No 1. Lounge does have a dress code, which is smart casual or business attire.
Overall, the No1 Lounge at Gatwick North is an impressive independent airport lounge. The spacious layout, solid food options, and limitless alcohol selection make the lounge a great place to spend a few hours before your flight out of London Gatwick.
