Most people think of Las Vegas as sun and fun – pool parties, casinos, and nightlife all come to mind. There’s an entire industry built around those very things, for sure. And for many visitors, the last thing they think about in Las Vegas is working out, even in luxury gyms.
Look further, however, and you have America’s fastest growing city with a warm-weather desert climate built for year round indoor/outdoor sports. Beneath the city’s tourism exterior you’ll find a serious, growing fitness community deserving of national recognition and respect. With that, here are four of the best luxury gyms in Las Vegas to check out on your next visit:
David Barton Gym
The other outpost of Los-Angeles-based David Barton Gym can be found about 15 minutes’ drive west of the Strip in Summerlin. At 30,000 sq ft, this is slightly smaller than its LA location, but nonetheless impressive.
Inside, the gym features the brand’s customary unique mixture of lightning, layout, and the occasional live DJ set making for an immersive yet fun workout experience. It’s all designed to aid the focus of the modern athlete on their workout, and take them away from distractions of the outside world.
This is a true location for Vegas-based athletes with modern, advanced strength and cardio training equipment, yoga/pilates studios, steam rooms, and most impressively some of the best personal trainers in the fitness industry. If you take your workouts seriously, you won’t be disappointed.
No list of Vegas gyms would be complete without at least one 24/7 location, and Lifetime more than makes the cut. Lifetime Athletic is a rapidly growing chain of high-end gyms across the US, similar to Equinox in style and marketing. Its location in Summerlin fits in well with the surrounding area and round-the-clock clientele.
With 200,000 sq ft of space, at Lifetime you’re not just entering a gym, you’re entering a fitness park. In addition to state of the art cardio and strength equipment, Lifetime has a 50 ft rock climbing wall, full-sized basketball and volleyball courts, full service spa/salon, café, and indoor and outdoor pools with a two level waterslide – all on premises.
Most 24/7 gyms are of the bare basics variety, so it’s nice to see a gym of Lifetime’s quality aim for these hours in any location, especially Vegas. A must-visit for any visitor looking to get in an early morning (or late night) workout.
Located in the Downtown Art District, just outside of Old Las Vegas, Real Fitness is a boutique gym with an emphasis on cross-training, Crossfit, and group-oriented classes for athletes looking to achieve long-term fitness goals
Inside, there’s more of a brick walled, old-school vibe, underlying the gym’s theme of a serious work ethic. Many individuals here aren’t just looking to maintain, but are training with sport and/or event specific goals in mind. For strength-training, you’ll find more of an an emphasis on suspension, kettlebell, free weight, and body weight exercises than the traditional strength equipment.
If you’re looking for a group-oriented atmosphere and have a desire to train with like-minded athletes, be sure to check it out. Real Results is also part of the Classpass program. If you’re a member, it’s a welcome opportunity to use your membership while in Las Vegas.
City Athletic Club
Arguably the most luxurious standalone club in all of Las Vegas, City Athletic Club is located about 10 minutes west of the Strip on Sahara Ave, and is the only health club in Las Vegas to receive Conde Nast’s five-star designation.
Inside, it boasts 48,000 sq ft of space, fully staffed locker rooms, an indoor pool, three studios, the largest selection of free weights in the city, and an immensely talented staff of 100 trainers. The selection of strength and particularly cardio equipment is modern and spacious, and can be found on multiple levels. Even at peak times, the club never feels cramped or crowded.
While it doesn’t quite have the nightclub/hotel vibe to the degree of David Barton upon entry, the bright lighting and decor combine well to create an atmosphere that feels trendy, energizing, and luxurious all at once. A must visit for any fitness enthusiast while in Las Vegas.
